So I just heard through the (internet) grapevine of two more really juicy Dancing With the Stars Season 10 rumors: Kate Goselin and Kevin Federline.
The Insider reported in December that Kate Gosselin had said she wanted to be on the show. She would absolutely be a ratings-getter, but is it also possible that this pseudo-celebrity should just be at home with her kids? I am unfortunately not a fan and Kate Gosselin is not a star. There you go.
Kevin Federline, on the other hand, would be awesome I think. He was reported recently telling radio host Ryan Seacrest that he would really like to do the show. I loved his Nationwide Insurance commercial he did a couple of years ago (it’s still available on YouTube if you forgot it). Shows he has a sense of humor about himself. And, of course, he does have dance ability. I think it would be fun!
I hate to say that I think both rumors are just that, rumors, but we’ll find out for sure on the finale of The Bachelor March 1st. Can’t hardly wait!!!
I found this video while cruising one of the great SYTYCD sites out there (thanks SYTYCDism!). Breakdancer Jonathan “Legacy” Perez, fabulous finalist from season 6 of SYTYCD has been busy busy busy exploring, dancing, and making videos of himself. If you find his page on YouTube there’s plenty of them to enjoy. But this one stood out to me, because of the opposite choices he makes. He’s a fast-paced B-Boy who is amazing at tricks, yet the video is mostly still shots of him in action, and closeups of his face (with those big eyes just looking). His usual music fare is of course quick and booming, that would lend itself to his moves. Yet the music he chooses is “Better Man” by James Morrison, a beautiful, soft and flowy lyrical song. Just check it out and see what I mean:
I wasn’t misled when I singled him out as a special dancer with a special heart. He had a revelation during his SYTYCD run, and it’s sticking with him. Keep going, Legacy!
Ok, I promised that I’d be posting my favorite dances from the past seasons of So You Think You Can Dance. This has NOT been easy. I’m just sayin’, is all. I’m not that familiar with the first couple of seasons, and searching for dances on YouTube can be really frustrating. It seems that FOX is pretty stingy with their videos because they believe it violates their copyright. I say it’s just promotion for the show, right? Oh well. Many thanks to Wikipedia.org for having pages for each season so I can see names and weekly breakdowns!!
I did have some help from a reader also, and she helped point me out to quite a few dances to search for specifically (thanks, Dixly!). However, my first choice isn’t one of hers, but that doesn’t mean a thing, there are so many more to come. These are not in order, they are just fantastic dances. And this one is fantastic, plus, I had never seen this style before.
In season 2, Heidi Groskreutz and Ryan Rankine drew a Cuban Rumba. Heidi thought it was going to be pretty close to the American Rumba, which you see all the time on SYTYCD and Dancing With The Stars. It’s dubbed “the bedroom dance” for a reason, it’s very sultry and slow. However, the Cuban Rumba has its roots in Cuba and Africa as well, and is fast and frenetic. The man communicates to his woman that he wants her and the woman says “no no no” while her movements say “yes” because she wants him, too, as Choreographer Alex DeSilva explains. Yet, they still need to make that chemistry connection and create what I thought was really a courtship/mating ritual dance.
This is a down and dirty dance, mostly done way down in the knees (almost grande plie), arms and shoulders spinning round and round. You can see the influence that Alvin Ailey took from this and infused into his style, and if I’m not mistaken, Bob Fosse was slightly influenced as well.
Plus, their outfits just make you want to put on a wide-brimmed, white hat and sit on the beach with a mojito, extra rum. White with splashes of color in her top and his sash. Really authentic. Watch this and tell me you don’t want to go down south!
Steamy and delicious, and really well done.
Well, thats the first one, many more to come, and hopefully several each week so come on back soon!
Ok, yes I realize this was over a month ago, but I don’t watch daytime TV and just stumbled upon this traipsing around YouTube. The top 10 from Season 5 So You Think You Can Dance contestants kicked off Ellen’s season 7 opener with a dance that she joined in on! Very cute.
I love Ellen, she is such a sweet, positive, funny nature. And I think she’s going to be a shot in the arm to the next season of Fox’s American Idol, which she is now a permanent judge. Take that you serious curmudgeons Simon, Kara and Randy! Let’s have some FUN judging on American Idol!!
It’s officially a record, I’ve been to TWO live music shows in the past two weeks. That’s more live shows that I’ve been to than in the last ten years combined!! And I’m now officially HOOKED. My husband and I were invited to U2 with the Black Eyed Peas at the Rose Bowl by some very generous friends. This was a special show, because not only has there not been a live concert at the Rose Bowl in years, the U2 portion of the show was going to be simulcast LIVE on YouTube across the globe (in fact, if you log on later today, you should be able to see a full version of the concert).
There is nothing like a live concert to get your blood pumping (right along with the bass) and inspire you to move and hopefully dance. If you have enough room, that is. If you don’t then you just save it for later–either at home in the living room or on the dance floor.
I knew this was going to be a good show at the start–come on, U2?? They’ve put on some of the most outrageous shows in history. Not bad for 4 Irish guys.
But what I didn’t expect AT ALL was to be completely blown out of the Bowl–by the Black Eyed Peas. Their set was about an hour. And I wanted more. I would have given up seeing U2 for seeing more of this electrifying group.
There is a great dynamic to them that you don’t have with a “normal” band, as there’s four people up front all sharing the “lead vocals”. Some would say the star is Fergie, but I disagree. They really share the stage together and put on one hell of a show. These are hot, hip, eclectic, slightly bohemian, talented people and I was set on fire.
They opened with “Let’s Get It Started”, which was a logical choice. Started, indeed.
Next video is “Boom Boom Pow”, where you could feel the bass literally in your bones. You moved whether you wanted to or not!
They saved the best for last. My friend said “this is LA, they usually have a special guest because so many musicians live here…” And damn if he wasn’t right. Check out Fergie doing “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns and Roses with none other than Slash.
A hugely satisfying show, and one that turned me into a big fan (where I wasn’t so much before). These people know how to dish it out (in family portions) and give you seconds and thirds. Well done to them!
