Looking Back on So You Think You Can Dance Part 2

Finally, I’m BACK!! Had a wonderful holiday away from just about everything, and made a load of New Year’s Resolutions. One is to BLOG MORE! So exciting. So on with it!
Here’s my second choice for the “best of the best” from past seasons of So You Think You Can Dance. And remember–this is in no particular order, just my opinion of the best dances.
In season 4, Katee Shean and Joshua Allen (winner of season 4) danced a piece by the ever-lovely Mia Michaels to “Hometown Glory” by Adele. Mia talks about the story being about two people who are focused selfishly on their own lives. But with the desperation in the music and the dancers performances, I get a whole different story: one about anger, struggle and yes, desperation of two soldiers, friends and possibly lovers, in this terrible war we’re currently in. Yeah, I get it that clearly. Katee and Joshua’s physical and emotional performances here are just about perfect as they throw themselves with abandon into the experience. The assisted run near the end is exquisite, and their lift and walk at the end makes you want to cry as you see them wanting so badly for this all to end, yet unable to get out of the middle of it.
Really heartbreakingly beautiful. And it’s a great thing about art, how the creator can intend one thing, and others can see something different. I don’t think it takes away from Mia at all, I think it reinforces her power as an artist. Well done on all sides.
Ahhhhh.
So I just joined NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month), so expect a post a day as I take the challenge. And enjoy. Remember, I welcome all objections and different opinions about these dances, so let me have it if you agree/disagree!!
