February 10th, 2010 by soullldiva

If you haven’t checked out this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (which always has some really great photography andEdyta and Lawrence pose for Sports Illustrated really beautiful women), head on over there and check it out. This year they are featuring four Dancing With the Stars female pros and past partners.

The ladies featured are Cheryl Burke and her partner from season 7 Maurice Greene, Edyta Sliwinska and her partner from season 8 Lawrence Taylor, Anna Trebunskyaya and her partner from season 9 Chuck Liddell, and Chelsie Hightower and her partner from season 8 Ty Murray. Of course, all the men are athletes and have appeared in Sports Anna and Chuck pose for Sports IllustratedIllustrated before.

The pictures are really fun, this wasn’t your usual beauty on a beach photo shoot. They kept it in a studio and really had the couples dance together to get the pictures, some of them are really candid. Of course, all of the ladies look stunning, and it just goes to prove what a fantastic bod ballroom dancing can give you!

Check it out here on SI.com.

Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan

February 10th, 2010 by soullldiva

When I found the video I posted yesterday, I had no idea what it was an actual excerpt of. I did a bit more digging and found out that Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan was actually a ballet choreographed by Frederick Ashton (Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet in London). He saw Isadora perform himself when he was on holiday with his family. He was only 17 years old. She made such an impression on him (even at 44 and admittedly past her prime) that he knew he was witnessing something special and went back again and again to see her.

He carried his memories of Isadora with him until 1976 when he created Five Waltzes for the Rambert Dance Company and starred ballerina Lynn Seymour.

Since then it has been recreated in the 80′s and in 2004. I found an introduction to the first video, with interviews of Lynn Seymour as she rehearses the latest ballerina to recreate her role, Tamara Rojo. She speaks a lot about what Frederick saw in Isadora Duncan and what inspired both him and her. Really a lovely clip. Enjoy!

Dancing With the Stars Season 10 rumors in overdrive!

February 9th, 2010 by soullldiva

So I just heard through the (internet) grapevine of two more really juicy Dancing With the Stars Season 10 rumors: Kate Goselin andKate Gosselin on Dancing with the Stars? Kevin Federline.

The Insider reported in December that Kate Gosselin had said she wanted to be on the show. She would absolutely be a ratings-getter, but is it also possible that this pseudo-celebrity should just be at home with her kids? I am unfortunately not a fan and Kate Gosselin is not a star. There you go.

Kevin Federline on Dancign with the Stars?

Kevin Federline, on the other hand, would be awesome I think. He was reported recently telling radio host Ryan Seacrest that he would really like to do the show. I loved his Nationwide Insurance commercial he did a couple of years ago (it’s still available on YouTube if you forgot it). Shows he has a sense of humor about himself. And, of course, he does have dance ability. I think it would be fun!

I hate to say that I think both rumors are just that, rumors, but we’ll find out for sure on the finale of The Bachelor March 1st. Can’t hardly wait!!!

Dance Quotes: Isadora Duncan (once again!)

February 9th, 2010 by soullldiva

I found this fantastic video of an Isador Duncan style-dance and thought it would go perfectly with this luscious quote of hers:

“Every movement that can be danced on the seashore
without being in harmony with the rhythm of the waves,
every movement that can be danced in the forest
without being in harmony with the swaying of the branches,
every movement that one can dance… in the sunshine,
in the open country, without being in harmony with the life
and the solitude of the landscape – every such movement is false,
in that it is out of tune in the midst of nature’s harmonious lines.
That is why the dancer should above all else choose movements
that express the strength, health, nobility, ease and serenity of living things.”
Isadora Duncan

I love the idea that to dance is to be in harmony with the land, the sea, the air and the fabric of life around us. Dance is living and dance is life.

Isn’t Tamara Rojo gorgeous? Just look at the expression on her face, her joy, her FEET!! More on her later…

Dancing With the Stars Season 10 Rumors (even more!)

February 8th, 2010 by soullldiva

Even though I’m pretty sure that the pros do NOT get to hand pick their partners, Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff has beenJohn Stamos on Dancing with the Stars season 10? very vocal lately about someone she would like to dance with in this upcoming season: John Stamos!

I have to admit, this would be a great pairing. I don’t know how adept Stamos is at dancing, but he just finished a run of Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway (perfect role for him), so he has at least some ability.

This would be a nice addition to the Season 10 cast. John Stamos is a pretty darn talented entertainer who seems to have a lot of staying power. If you turned on the TV at all in the last decade, you have seen John Stamos, either on a stint on the always popular ER, or on his own shows (like Jake in Progress). Not to mention his past hugely popular shows Full House and General Hospital. It’s as though it’s not the entertainment industry without John Stamos.Karina Smirnoff wants to dance with John Stamos for DWTS season 10

There’s no official word from ABC on whether or not Stamos was offered a spot in the Season 10 cast as of yet. Well, guess we just have to wait for the announcements on the season finale of The Bachelor March 1st!  I’ll be there taking notes and letting you know ;o)
